\n\t\t\t\t\t\tFortino Sant'Antonio, located in one of the most picturesque spots in the old city of Bari, offers an enchanting view of the sea and the new city, embracing a bend in the ancient walls. Built around 1440 at the behest of the Duke of Bari Giovanni Antonio Del Balzo Orsini, the Fortino originally served as a defensive tower, next to a small church dedicated to Saint Anthony. Reconstructed in the 16th century during the reign of Isabella D'Aragona and Bona Sforza D'Aragona as part of the renovation of the city's defenses, the Fortino underwent remodeling until the 18th century, when the fa\u00e7ade on Via Venezia was rebuilt. After demilitarization in 1847 and a long period of neglect, the Fortino underwent restoration from 1994 to 2000. It offers a breathtaking view of the ancient medieval walls and the waterfront profile dating back to the first half of the 20th century. Its history goes back as far as 1071, when the Norman Robert Guiscard erected a stone tower to defend the harbor during the siege of Bari. These defensive buildings were often dedicated to saints or thaumaturges to ensure protection, and the Fortino was dedicated to Saint Anthony Abbot.
