What truly captivates visitors, however, is the remarkable fact that no nails were used in its construction. This choice has led some to speculate that it was made out of great respect, as nails were instrumental in the crucifixion of Jesus. In the late 19th century, the first bishop of the Turkistan eparchy recognized the urgent need for an Orthodox church in Almaty, as the previous one was destroyed, along with many other stone structures, by the 1887 earthquake.
