Savona<\/strong> is a city rich in art<\/strong> and historically significant places<\/strong>.
Known as \u201cthe City of Popes\u201d<\/strong>, it was the birthplace of Sixtus IV<\/strong> and Julius II<\/strong> of the Della Rovere family<\/strong>, under whom the city experienced a period of great artistic glory<\/strong> during the Renaissance<\/strong>.<\/p>

Savona is one of the oldest cities in Liguria<\/strong>, already active in Roman times<\/strong> along important trade routes<\/strong>.
After the fall of the Empire, it was devastated by the Heruli<\/strong> and the Goths<\/strong>, later coming under Byzantine<\/strong>, Lombard<\/strong>, and eventually Duchy of Liguria<\/strong> rule, with Genoa<\/strong> as its capital.<\/p>

Around the year 1000<\/strong>, it became one of the most active ports in the Ligurian Sea<\/strong>.

White farinata<\/strong>, for example, was born from popular creativity:
when chickpea flour<\/strong> became too expensive, this \u201cwhite\u201d version, made with wheat flour<\/strong>,
offered a more delicate flavour<\/strong> and a softer texture<\/strong>.
It is best enjoyed hot, straight from the oven<\/strong>.<\/p>

We recommend historic places such as Vino e Farinata<\/strong>, active since 1856<\/strong>,
where it is still baked in traditional copper testi<\/strong>.
Osteria La Farinata<\/strong> also serves it in a family-style setting<\/strong>, perfect for a relaxed evening.<\/p>

Another classic is the panissa sandwich<\/strong>, an ancient street food<\/strong>.
Panissa<\/strong>, a mixture of chickpea flour, is fried<\/strong> and nestled in crispy bread<\/strong>,

\n Savona\u2019s ceramic tradition<\/strong> is one of the oldest and most fascinating in Italy<\/strong>, with roots dating back to the 12th century<\/strong>.\n The city, together with nearby Albissola Superiore<\/strong> and Albissola Marina<\/strong>, was an important centre of ceramic production in the Mediterranean<\/strong>,\n thanks to its abundant clay deposits<\/strong> and strategic position<\/strong> for maritime trade.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Over the centuries, Savona ceramics<\/strong> underwent significant stylistic evolution.\n In the 16th century<\/strong>, majolica decorated with cobalt blue and polychrome motifs<\/strong> became predominant,\n often inspired by both oriental<\/strong> and Western themes<\/strong>.\n The Savona Ceramic Museum<\/strong>, located in the Palazzo del Monte di Piet\u00e0<\/strong>,\n houses a vast collection that showcases this rich tradition<\/strong>.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n In addition to the Feast of the Nostra Signora della Misericordia<\/strong>, another major religious celebration takes place in Savona:\n the Good Friday Procession<\/strong>.\n <\/p>\n\n
