Kielce: Dialogue between natural and cultural values in Ponidzie<\/b><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ponidzie <\/b>is a region located in Poland, in the southern part of the \u015awi\u0119tokrzyskie Voivodeship, distinguished by its natural and historical values.\u00a0<\/p>

This region stretches along the meanders of the Nida River. The town of Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w <\/b>is located in this geographical region, from where we start our route, going from the Market Square<\/b> to the hill with the Chapel of St. Anna,<\/b> then to Zamkowe Hill,<\/b> where a Renaissance castle originally stood. Near Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w you can see mines of Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w limestone, which has been used in construction for centuries. From Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w we go to Wi\u015blica <\/b>through Busko<\/b>–Zdr\u00f3j<\/b>, before stopping in We\u0142ecz<\/b>, where a natural phenomenon – pine on stilts, so-called also a “hanging pine<\/b>“. The next point on the route is Wi\u015blica, where Christianity began in these lands. Here is the Gothic collegiate Church of St. Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary <\/b>and the Archaeological<\/b> Museum<\/b>. From here we go to Zago\u015b\u0107 <\/b>to the Church St. John’ the Babtist<\/b>. Then we go to Chroberz <\/b>with the Wielopolskich Palace<\/b>. The route ends with the beautiful Cistercian Abbey<\/b> in J\u0119drzej\u00f3w<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w <\/b>is the capital of Ponidzie, a town picturesquely situated on the hills on the Nida River. The city has retained its provincial charm, old buildings, and a valuable complex of Renaissance monuments. The city has a historic urban layout, with a market square with a stone fountain. Near the market square is the late Renaissance parish Church of St. John the Evangelist<\/b> and the Pauline monastery<\/b>. In the part of the city called Mir\u00f3w <\/b>is an early Baroque complex of a Reformed church and monastery, and two Renaissance monuments: a synagogue and a house called the Arian printing house. Zago\u015b\u0107 <\/b>is a village located north of Wi\u015blica and 9 km east of the town of Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w. The origins of the village date back to the 7th century. Zago\u015b\u0107 was the first seat of the Hospitallers in Poland. Henryk Sandomierski brought the monks here and a Romanesque church was built, expanded in the Gothic style. Currently, the church is located near the cemetery and is the center of the village. J\u0119drzej\u00f3w <\/b>is a city located in the Nida River valley. It received its current name at the beginning of the 12th century. Previously, it was the village of Brze\u017anica<\/b>, which existed since the 7th century. An important moment in the history of the settlement was the founding of a Cistercian monastery in 1140. The city was an important trading center until the 19th century. One of the tourist attractions in J\u0119drzej\u00f3w <\/b>is the Przypkowski Museum<\/b>, which has one of the largest collections of clocks; the museum ranks third in the world in terms of the number and value of sundials.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One of the traditional dishes in Ponidzia is the bean tart<\/b>, a creation dating back to the first half of the 20th century. The genesis of this dish is linked to the aftermath of the destruction caused by the Germans during World War II, which led to a substantial increase in the prices of grains and foodstuffs, rendering them nearly unattainable. Faced with this scarcity, the necessity arose to substitute flour with whatever was abundant and readily available. White beans emerged as an ideal replacement for flour, giving rise to the bean tart\u2014a pastry crafted with beans in lieu of flour.<\/p>

In addition to this culinary specialty, Ponidzie is renowned for yeast dumplings filled with various ingredients.<\/p>

Ponidzie is also recognized for its association with the cultivation of herbs <\/b>and herbal medicine<\/b>.\u00a0<\/p>

Ma\u0142gorzata Doroz-Turek is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Kielce University of Technology. I research historical architecture, preserve and protect monuments, and revitalize cities. I am a member of the Polish National Committee of ICOMOS, the author of many publications, and an active participant in conferences devoted to monuments.
\nPatrycja Kusz, Piotr Fit, and Bart\u0142omiej Widanka are second-year engineering students majoring in architecture. These are hard-working students interested in architecture and its history, and local and international projects.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We started our work by consciously choosing the wonderful Ponidzie region in Poland and several interesting places in this area that intrigued us. For the presentation, we collected information about these places, their history and monuments, and curiosities related to them, and prepared those that, in our opinion, are the most interesting and valuable. We collected photographic documentation of the places we indicated and described in Pi\u0144cz\u00f3w, We\u0142ecz, Wi\u015blica, Zago\u015b\u0107, Chrobrz, and J\u0119drzej\u00f3w and objects related to them. Preparing materials for the seminar of The Worlds festival in Florence was an interesting adventure for us. Visiting these places again was an interesting experience and a break from everyday activities. Some places we have already seen and heard of, others thanks to the task we were able to see them and learn more about them. We learned better about the history, monuments, and natural products of the region in which we live. By participating in the festival, we were involved in raising awareness of the local community, and at the same time, we wanted to share this information and encourage others to discover our region. Few people in Poland, especially abroad, know the Ponidzie region and its historical and natural values.
